Mak Smith was and is a solicitor (lawyer), divorced with an "empty nest" - a divourced father whose children had grown and moved onto their own lives. His house, in Auckland's suburb of Epsom, was an unremarkable bungalow. He wanted to explore the possibilities of extending it to allow for family and guests to visit and stay for extended periods. This particular design includes an enlarged kitchen as well as an additional floor (Master Bedroom) to the bungalow as well as a new bedroom and entertainment wing approached via a loggia, and all embracing a large swimming pool. Modification of Existing House Click image to enlarge Additional to this, was a proposed cottage in which he himself might later live - renting his main hoime out for a retirement income. The cottage was linked to the main house via a loggia which ran the length of a new swimming pool.
