The critical theory of education proposed by American theorists Samuel Bowles and Herb Gintis in which they maintained that despite claims to the contrary, the education system is designed to create skilled workers in precisely the proportions necessary to fit existing job requirements and thereby to maintain the social and political status quo. See: Bowles, S. and Gintis, H., Schooling in Capitalist America, Basic Books, New York, 1976.
