Trans-Cultural Work Practice

I don’t pretend to be an “expert” on trans-cultural work and processes, but I do know that working and living in another culture – especially one in which you do not speak the language can be fraught with social and cultural hazards. The remarkable paradox of cross or trans-cultural work and experience is that the more you know and understand about the other culture in which you find yourself immersed, the more you are expected to know, and the less forgiving is the host culture of your mistakes and misdemeanours. It becomes a taken-for-granted reality that because you know more than you did, you should know almost everything. Included in this PDF are two instances of the situation that cross-cultural border-crossers can find themselves in.
