Founded in 1964 as a postgraduate research centre at the University of Birmingham, England, the Centre has played a central role in the initiation and development of contemporary cultural theories. Started by Richard Hoggart and Stuart Hall , the Centre’s initial work looked at the lived culture of different classes, branching out eventually to look at the issues of sub-culture, education, mass media, race, gender. literary criticism etc.
